Sad Day

Today I found out she had an abortion.

I would have taken that baby, if she would have let me.

I can't help but wonder what I could have done better, or said differently.

I'm so sad for her, for what I fear may lie ahead, for her other child, who will never know that brother or sister, and also very, very sad for that little life I saw inside her, gone now.

Some days this medicine thing is not fun.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I'll never understand how someone could do that to a baby, especially after seeing its heart beating inside of her. I'll say a prayer.

That makes me so sad, too. You did all you knew to do and said all you knew to say. Even Jesus faced rejection, so don't take it personally. She alone is responsible for the decision to end a precious life, and my guess is that you'll probably see this repeated many times during your career. I'm not certain how you get to a place where you don't let it affect you to an unhealthy degree, but I guess that's question that everyone in medicine has to answer at some point.

Thanks for a great blog.
You did everything you could. I thought you gave good advice and you spoke truth to her. Now she will have to live with that decision the rest of her life and it will haunt her the rest of her life. We should pray that she will seek redemption in Christ. Maybe that will help your heart.

Oh. How awful, really.

This was her decision, not yours. You're a good doc, Aubrey, one used by God for His purposes.
