Giveaway

I've been watching in amazement for a few days as the links over here keep growing and growing with people who are hosting giveaways. The last time around I didn't participate, but now that things are slightly more settled in my somewhat crazy but wonderful job I thought I'd make an offering. The softies I make don't quite compare to amazing things you might see here or here , but I still think they are pretty cute. All those who leave comments will be entered to win the homemade softie of their choice, either an owl : (You can pick the colors you'd like, from a list of colors I have.) Or a penguin : Who will come with sunglasses, goggles, and a winter hat. (Because every good penguin should be prepared.) You can also pick (from a limited list) colors for the penguin's hat and glasses. I'll hold the drawing on Monday, since I'll be on call on Sunday, and the post the winner on Tuesday. Feel free to leave in your comment any favorite crafty blogs - ...

The great room change

Image
To get ready for this baby (who is coming in 7 weeks or so !!), we put a toddler bed into Judah's room for Naomi to sleep in. We haven't actually started letting her sleep in there yet, since I keep going back and forth between wanting to switch her before the baby comes and waiting a few months until the baby actually needs his or her own room. But while my mom was here, I figured it would be the best time to go ahead and get everything ready. Here is the "before" shot, messy bookshelf, unmade bed and all: And here is the "after" shot: I'd still like to hang more stuff on the walls to make this space above Naomi's bed a little more girly, but I was very happy with how nicely everything fit. You can see Judah's little feet,  testing out the new bed. And here is Naomi trying it out. She loved it. She frequently says she wants to sleep in her new bed before bed and nap time, so I may try to go ahead and move her sooner, but I'm tot...

The On-call-ogist

For all you non-medical folk who read this blog (most of you, I'm assuming) I thought I'd give you a small sample of what it's like when you are on call. 0500 - Alarm goes off. Hit snooze. 0508 - Goes off again. Feel bad for husband, who doesn't have to get up, so drag yourself out of bed. Shower, pack a bag, and try to ignore the pitiful look the dog is giving you since you don't have time to walk her today. 0613 - Arrive at hospital. Begin seeing patients, starting with a sweet 97 year old, who you get to pray with as she is very open in her love for Jesus. Get a little teary when she prays for you and tells you she loves you. 0645 - Work your way down each floor, stopping and writing notes on all of your patients. Realize that none of them are going home, and since you are on call today, your patient list is going to get huge. 0745 - Meet Jeff for breakfast. ( french toast - yum) 0800 - Start rounds with the attending and the other team. 1000 - Still rounding. As...
