The Whole Story.
Obviously, we are very excited and thankful about our new addition.
There is a lot more to this story though, and a lot of things I haven't been able to write about here.
Back in the fall we decided that instead of pursuing another IUI, we really felt called to adopt. We had been doing lots of reading and thinking about adoption and were excited to move forward. Because it is so easy to know exactly who we are and where we live from reading our blog, we didn't want to write about the adoption on the blog until everything was finalized which is why this is the first time we've written about it here. We attended our first informational meeting with Bethany Christian Services in November and then had our training with them in early December.
Then we found out we were pregnant. Surprise! Then we found out the pregnancy was ectopic.
The ectopic pregnancy didn't change our feelings about adoption so we proceeded with our home study, finally getting approved and going on the waiting list in April.
Just a few short weeks later we discovered I was pregnant again. This time it really was a miracle because for the first time in about five years or so we were actually doing something to prevent pregnancy. (Apparently not very well!) The medication I had to take to treat the ectopic pregnancy is a category X in pregnancy (meaning that it is known to cause serious fetal malformations) and can be detected in your system for several months after receiving it. I honestly could not believe when the test was positive. I immediately texted my friend who is also my doctor and got an appointment to make sure the baby was growing in the right spot this time, as there is a 15% chance of a repeat ectopic after you have one. Thankfully, we could immediately tell things looked normal, but I still felt very nervous about this pregnancy.
We have since seen our baby several more times (the benefit of working in an office with access to an ultrasound and having a dad who also has one). Baby continues to grow well and I am slowly feeling like maybe we'll actually be bringing a baby home in December.
God continues to lead us in some unexpected ways. Through the trials and blessings, he continues to be good to us.
I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD
in the land of the living!
Wait for the LORD;
be strong, and let your heart take courage;
wait for the LORD!
(Psalm 27:13-14 ESV)
