Today I braved the traffic and crowds to see the decorations at The Grove. Judah and Naomi loved riding the trolley with Nana.

The great room change

To get ready for this baby (who is coming in 7 weeks or so !!), we put a toddler bed into Judah's room for Naomi to sleep in. We haven't actually started letting her sleep in there yet, since I keep going back and forth between wanting to switch her before the baby comes and waiting a few months until the baby actually needs his or her own room. But while my mom was here, I figured it would be the best time to go ahead and get everything ready. Here is the "before" shot, messy bookshelf, unmade bed and all: And here is the "after" shot: I'd still like to hang more stuff on the walls to make this space above Naomi's bed a little more girly, but I was very happy with how nicely everything fit. The On-call-ogist

For all you non-medical folk who read this blog (most of you, I'm assuming) I thought I'd give you a small sample of what it's like when you are on call. 0500 - Alarm goes off. Hit snooze. 0508 - Goes off again. Feel bad for husband, who doesn't have to get up, so drag yourself out of bed. Shower, pack a bag, and try to ignore the pitiful look the dog is giving you since you don't have time to walk her today. 0613 - Arrive at hospital. Begin seeing patients, starting with a sweet 97 year old, who you get to pray with as she is very open in her love for Jesus. Get a little teary when she prays for you and tells you she loves you. 0645 - Work your way down each floor, stopping and writing notes on all of your patients. Realize that none of them are going home, and since you are on call today, your patient list is going to get huge. 0745 - Meet Jeff for breakfast. Things I miss.

Obviously LA has a lot to offer and we have been trying to take full advantage. But here is a quick and short list of some things that I'm missing from SC. 1. My family. Clearly, this is the biggest thing. Judah probably asks to visit Nana's house at least daily. We loved being close to family and are sad that they are so far away. I'm looking forward to a visit soon. 2. The rain. I know that most of upstate SC may want to kill me, but I loved the summer rains. (maybe if I were there now I'd be singing a different tune). I love running in the rain and its smell and the sound it makes on the windows. We have had maybe 15 minutes of sprinkle since we've been here. 3. Time on the lake. We do have the pacific ocean, but it doesn't beat being able to water ski over the glassy green water of Hartwell. 4. My job. Hopefully I can get a new one soon... Which also sort of dovetails into how I miss taking my kids to a doctor that I knew really well. 5. The yard. ...
